Ex-Cardinals reliever Maness lands deal with Royals”

The Royals have agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with lefty Travis Wood, as first reported by ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. In the wake of the tragic death of Yordano Ventura, Kansas City has worked hard to accumulate rotation depth by signing both Hammel and Wood. During his time in Chicago, Wood had a record of 32-42 an ERA of 3.94 and pitched a total of 691 innings.

Wood also gained some notoriety this past season by appearing in left field on three different occasions, once making a catch against the outfield wall.

Maness appeared in a career-low 29 games last season, spending more than a month on the disabled list, but returned and posted a career-long 14 1/3-inning scoring streak before making his final outing on August 13. He also has nine career home runs to his name, though he hasn't hit one in the regular season since 2014; he did hit one during the 2016 NLDS, however.

Wood is the third Cub to make the switch to Royal blue.
