Disney's new Guardians of the Galaxy ride opens in May

Disney's new Guardians of the Galaxy ride opens in May”

While no one's necessarily been harping on it yet, one of the biggest mistakes that Marvel executives will admit to with their first go around of Guardians of the Galaxy is not foreseeing the appeal of Baby Groot.

Disney's California Adventure theme park announced they'll be kicking off a "Summer of Heroes" with the opening of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! ride on May 27.

The ride will still subject fearless passengers to a series of drops amidst a more comical, sci-fi tone than its predecessor. "You can celebrate the arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy-Mission BREAKOUT! and join forces with legendary Super Heroes". In effect, riders will experience randomized ride experiences complete with visual and audio effects inspired by the film's soundtrack.

Coinciding with the attraction opening will be an event called Summer of Heroes, which will last through September 10. Star-Lord and his buddies are taking over at Disneyland/California Adventure. The most recent ride change at the park took place in Car's Land where Lugi's Flying Tires became Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters. This limited time celebration will bring the Marvel Characters to life.

Other new year-round experiences include Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! and Super Hero Encounters, in which park visitors come face-to-face with Groot, Captain America, and Spider-Man.
