Rachel Maddow Reveals Trump's Tax Returns”

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow revealed a portion of President Donald Trump's 2005 tax return on her show Tuesday night.

The documents showed Trump reported about $152 million in income, including $67 million in rental income, and paid the Alternative Minimum Tax of about $38 million. According to an analysis of the returns posted on Johnston's website, Trump and his wife Melania paid just $5.3 million in income taxes, a rate of about 4 percent.

The AMT was introduced to ensure that the wealthiest of taxpayers pay a fairer share of tax. His lawyers released an unusual letter in March that said the years 2009 forward remained under review.

The White House released details of Trump's income and tax returns after a USA television host presented what she said was part of the property mogul's tax forms from 2005. Maddow argued that until the tax returns were released Americans would never know if Trump was "beholden" to these or other foreign interests.

Donald Trump is the first president, vice president, presidential candidate, or vice-presidential candidate to refuse to release his tax returns since the Watergate era.

The White House said Trump took into account "large scale depreciation for construction".

Sukhoi MKI 30 crashes in Rajasthan; pilots escaped unhurt
The injured were identified as Narayan Ram, his daughter-in-law Dalluram and 14-year old-grandson Hanumanram. Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft crashed in Rajasthan's Shivkar Kudla village in Barmer on Wednesday.

The White House confirmed the details just before David Cay Johnston, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist and MSNBC said they would reveal the short filing. He said he has no idea who leaked it, and speculated that it could even be the president himself. It added that Trump, as "one of the most successful businessmen in the world", paid "no more tax than legally required".

Trump is the only president since the Watergate era to never have released any of his tax returns during his campaign.

The statement continued, "It is totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns".

"Let me point out it's entirely possible Donald sent this to me", he said.

Trump's thinly veiled claim that the documents were not mailed to Johnston came less than 12 hours after his White House released a statement that verified the information contained in them, and called them collectively an "illegally published return".
