Samsung's foldable super flagship is in the final stages of development

Earlier this year, it was rumoured that Samsung would be showing off a foldable smartphone concept to some industry clients at Barcelona's MWC 2017 tradeshow in February.

Samsung always introduces a host of smartphones per year but it is adding one more unique product to the entire portfolio and if you have not heard about it till now, it has been named Galaxy X, according to a trademark filing. The report goes on to claim that mass-production is "likely" to take place in 2018.

Along with Samsung, panel manufacturers of China are also speeding up the development process for foldable display prototypes.

It sounds like Samsung is following the same strategy it employed with Edge displays.

Information about the phone, often dubbed the Galaxy X, has been slowly leaking out over the past couple years, with the latest reports indicating that the company is developing a version that is able to fold out and transform into a 7-inch tablet. Recent reports suggest that numerous Chinese display panel makers are also now committing more resources to their efforts of developing a prototype of a foldable smartphone panel. "We are planning on mass-production and release this product by discussing with our partners". These companies are said to be working towards mass-production capabilities for folding displays. Samsung will supposedly manufacture thousands of units of the prototype.

Though the idea of foldable smartphones is something to look forward to and will surely garner a lot of attention, the constant delay has put the excitement at rest.

While Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display were working on increasing level of perfection of prototype of foldable Smartphone as much as they can, Chinese companies have rapidly pursued after South Korean companies. The corporation is apparently competing against rival Chinese OEMs in a race to see who can clinch the title of 'world's first foldable smartphone'.
