Le Pen ups promises to French Polynesia”

"To whatever extent this vote is a signal on France, the high turnout and rally towards the mainstream center look bad for her (Le Pen)", said Anna Stupnytska, Global Economist at Fidelity International.

Marine Le Pen, the National Front's candidate, secured 17.9 per cent of the vote, placing her in third place.

Ms Le Pen, who has pledged to deliver "Frexit" if elected as the country's president, praised the United Kingdom for leading the way out of the "prison" of the EU. "So, thank you for showing us the way out of this huge prison", she told Farage.

Le Pen's rivals for the presidency were quick to welcome the Dutch result, which centrist Emmanuel Macron said showed that "a breakthrough for the extreme right is not a foregone conclusion and that progressives are gaining momentum".

The leader of France's National Front has endorsed the idea of enlarging French Polynesia's autonomy.

She batted away questions about antisemitism within her party, asking to be judged on her reaction to it, instead.

The clip of Mr Loeuillet is part of a documentary on the National Front, which is set to air on Wednesday.

Frédéric Chatillon and two other party officials already face trial accused of setting up a scheme to overcharge for campaign expenses that were reimbursed by the state during the 2012 general election campaign.

"Well they do not seem to have a very humanistic vision", Ms Le Pen replied before tearing into the threats aimed at deterring Britain's exit from the bloc. She has previously denied the claims.

Mr Farage told Miss Le Pen that she would get to meet Mrs May if she won the election, reminding her that Number 10 had also snubbed Donald Trump before he became president.

In a promotional tweet ahead of the broadcast at 7pm on Wednesday night, LBC called the interview "unmissable". He said Downing Street had not wanted to engage with Trump until after he was elected.

However, she did not believe, like some critics of LBC on Twitter, that Le Pen should be refused a platform, partly because Le Pen could come in the top two in the forthcoming French elections.
