PS3 Shipments And Production Coming to an End In Japan”

Sony has confirmed on its Japanese website (as translated by Gematsu) that the long-running console is set to end production in Japan, as the company has noted that "Shipments are scheduled to end soon". The Japanese site still offers the Charcoal Black 500GB model of the gaming machine, which was released on August 28, 2014.

However, the move to stop the production after 10 years is not really a surprise since Sony consoles are said to have a 10-year life cycle. The console came out in Japan on November 11th, 2006 so it's almost been 11 years since the console first shipped out to stores.

PlayStation 3 for the first time came out on the market way back in the month of November in the year 2006. All other models exited production when Sony released this unit in 2012, just about a year before the PlayStation 4 launched.

Many reports have surfaced online about updated PlayStation 4 consoles being unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

This is definitely sad news for existing PlayStation 3 owners as the company will surely cut support for the console eventually and new games launches will soon become a rare occurrence.

PlayStation Now currently lets users stream over 400 PS3 titles to the PlayStation 4 console, or to a Windows PC, and soon Sony will finally add PS4 titles to the service.

Sony's PlayStation 4 raked in a staggering $17.8 billion of that total global value, representing more than half of the total global console market's earnings. Debuting as the most expensive console in ages, suffering early defeat in the face of huge Xbox 360 sales figures, but it eventually regained its footing and scored some fantastic exclusive titles.
