South Korea's ousted leader leaves presidential palaceā€

For months, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators have gathered nearly weekly near the presidential Blue House in Seoul, calling for the departure of Park Geun-hye as South Korea's leader.

Disgraced South Korean leader Park Geun-hye left the presidential Blue House on Sunday, two days after a court dismissed her over a corruption scandal, bound for her private home and facing the possibility of prosecution and jail.

Television footage showed hundreds of Park's flag-waving supporters gathered outside her home in prosperous southern Seoul with reports saying she is likely to leave the presidential office on Monday.

They say the downfall of Park shows that the constitution places too much power that is easily abused and often goes unchecked into the hands of the president.

Park, 65, is South Korea's first democratically elected leader to be forced from office.

Their proposal for a new constitution is based on power-sharing, in which the president is limited to handling foreign affairs and national security and leaves domestic affairs to a prime minister picked by Parliament.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office was not available for comment but media said prosecutors were considering summoning Park as early as this week. No violence was reported.

There were signs that she refused to believe she would be impeached until the last minute, since her home was still being refurbished when the ruling was announced and it took her two days and mounting calls from opposition parties to vacate the presidential compound. Speaking at a news conference, he also said prosecutors should open their corruption investigation into Park immediately.
