Snap Inc. CEO Allegedly Stated The App Is For

In response to the comments Snapchat fans in India have taken to Twitter to boycott the app.

However, Snapchat's attorneys rubbished his claims saying, "The simple fact is that he (Mr Pompliano) knows nothing about Snap's current metric".

Considering the rising mobile and internet penetration in India - which Internet and Mobile Association of India predicts to get doubled by 2020 - the Snapchat CEO's comment is trivializing the country's consumer base.

Employee Anthony Pompliano who was hired from Facebook to increase Snapchat's reach, has been fired from the company and is being sued by the tech startup.

When we asked a Snap inc spokesperson if this statement will now affect their growth in the Australian market, he said,"One problem at a time mate".

Meanwhile, the rating of the popular app dropped to a "single star" from "five star" on the App Store. Well, not only is this unfortunate for the owners of Snapdeal, but doesn't speak very highly of Indian app users either, if they can't differentiate between an e-commerce site and a social media app. Users are urged to leave a one-star rating for the app and then uninstall it in protest. "I bet 3/4th of his company is run by Indian people". "Those words were written by a disgruntled former employee. You'll be product of gone by era and derision", and "Poor Evan Spiegel". Many users have also shared negative reviews of Snapdeal on Google Play Store.

"I haven't seen any Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians etc Tweets yet".

Others felt that the impact may be limited partly because of Snapchat's small user base. With the hashtag #UninstallSnapchat, users in India are sharing the reasons why they're getting rid of the app. While there is no clarity on the exact user base of Snapchat in India, some believe the app has 4 million users here as of a year ago. Snapchat first launched the "Stories" feature in 2013. But due to many controversies, Snapchat was easily surpassed by Instagram. Which also means users in India don't care much about Snapchat.
