Steve Ballmer's new project sheds light on USA government spending”

The project proved to be a massive undertaking, and is a result of the efforts of $10 million in funding and compilation of research from three decades of information from more than 70 local, state, and federal government agencies.

The site went live Tuesday and Ballmer says that the goal is to "figure out what the government really does with the money", and it works like a 10-K of the government.

Promoting the general welfare encompasses programs maintaining standards of living like public housing and transfer programs, public health initiatives, economic programs and government-run businesses like post offices and hospitals. (No, not just cheering for the basketball team he owns, the Los Angeles Clippers.) It's a novel project, and he plans to take the wrapping off it today.

"I said, "Where the heck is the 10-K?'" Ballmer said during the CNBC interview, referring to public companies" quarterly financial reports. I'm shocked! But the N.R.A. apparently has lobbied in such a way government can't report the data. "We want the facts, the numbers, so that when people go to take a position, they're taking a position well-grounded in the actual data".

Ballmer said that he wanted to provide information without a specific agenda or sense of framing in mind.

Dollar dips, gold gains on global risks; U.S. stocks bounce
S&P 500 mini futures declined 0.15 percent to 2,324, edging near a six-week low of 2,317.75 touched in late March following U.S. Spot gold fell as low as $1,275.73 per ounce, and was trading at $1,279.91 per ounce, down 0.7pc by 1445 GMT.

A dedicated USAFacts website went live Tuesday morning and will be continuously updated with additional data over time.

There are also facts on the USA population, along with a national 2017 summary, report and 10-K, which together provide a dense, comprehensive presentation of the country's finances.

"When I was at Microsoft, the first thing I'd do when assessing a competitor was look at the 10-K", he said. He knew that the federal government is by far the biggest investor in solutions to social problems - with the most experience and the most resources to tackle big challenges. "I can't show it!" As such, it won't contain data as to the total number of firearms in the country. "I'm shocked!" he said, blaming the United States gun lobby for the lack of transparency. He hopes to open it up so that individuals and companies can build on top of it and pull out customized reports.

After leaving the tech super-giant a couple of years back, Ballmer became obsessed with where tax money was going. "I just think it's important if you are going to make your case, for you to make your case in the context of numbers", Balmer said.

"I thought more of it would be summarized someplace", he said.
