Three-way bid launched for first 48-team FIFA World Cup

Three-way bid launched for first 48-team FIFA World Cup”

Canada, Mexico, and the United states have partnered up to make a bid to host the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Despite the plan being revealed Monday afternoon during a press conference on the 102nd floor of the Freedom Tower, the three nations won't learn if their combined bid is successful until May 2020, when Federation Internationale de Football Association is expected to name the hosts of the massive tournament, which will expand from 32 teams to 48 in 2026.

At the announcement at One World Trade Center, Gulati and Montagliani both gave the impression that they expected all three host countries to automatically qualify as part of the bid.

The United States, Mexico and Canada are joining together and will enter a bid to host the 2026 World Cup.

"The United States, Mexico and Canada have individually demonstrated their exceptional abilities to host world-class events".

The composition of the FIFA-organised event will also change in 2026 with a new 48-nation field, playing 80 matches.

Germany's Mario Gotze scores the lone goal of the 2014 World Cup final. Yet doubts remain over what impact U.S. president Donald Trump and the policies of his administration might have on the joint proposal.

What about that wall Donald Trump wants to build on the U.S.

Playground case touches on separation of church and state
Since California's constitution was passed in 1879, a strict separation between church and state has been enshrined in state law. It was "reenacted" in the latest version of the state's constitution in 1945. "It's a religious discrimination issue", she said.

The 2026 tournament, if awarded to the three countries, would produce the biggest financial boon ever for Federation Internationale de Football Association, said Gulati.

All matches from the quarter-finals onwards would take place on USA soil, Gulati added, while each of the three host nations are hopeful of securing automatic qualification, in line with previous World Cup hosting rules. "We have a strong encouragement from President Trump".

The U.S., Canada and Mexico have settled on an unprecedented answer to that question: just combine forces.

Montagliani said on Monday that the group will push for all three host countries to receive automatic World Cup qualification.

Fifa's executive committee is no longer responsible for the final say on which country is awarded a World Cup. "I think we're through the tunnel and now it's up to us to start going up the hill", he said in an interview. What we do know is that the USA will host 60 matches, including every game from the quarterfinals through to the final.

Canada's largest arena is Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, which opened in 1978 and was renovated ahead of the 2015 Women's World Cup.

It was also confirmed by Gulati that any potential tournament would be hosted in the US from the quarterfinal stage onwards, thus meaning the World Cup final would take place in the United States of America. In December 2010, the governing body announced that Russian Federation and Qatar, respectively, will host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

But Gulati said that President Trump is "supportive" of the bid and had "encouraged" it.
